James

James, the half-brother of Jesus, was not an apostle though he served as the apostles’ pastor. From this unique vantage point he writes to us not as a theorist, but as a practitioner. His burning drive is that we will model a real, that is, practical faith. James teaches us that the true test of the veracity of one’s faith is to be found in a life of joyful obedience to the Lord. Along the way, he pricks our conscience and challenges us to jettison sinful thought patterns, beliefs, and behaviors and to live as befits a child of God.
