Our Church History

Spring Cypress Presbyterian Church began as a group of families meeting in their homes for Bible Studies in 1977.  In 1978, the group held its first worship service and Sunday school at the Kleinwood clubhouse.  On August 26, 1979, the church was organized as a mission church of Covenant PCA, and the congregation called Dr. Kent Hinkson as its pastor.

In 1981, the land on which our currently campus stands was purchased.  The same year, The Little Brown Church was built as a gift from charter members Willard and Adelaide Mallot, to serve as an education building.  On September 5, 1982, the current sanctuary was dedicated.

A Children's Day Out program was opened in the fall of 1984, ministering to 30 children and their families.  The desire for a Christian school was realized in the fall of 1985.  In 1986 the congregation voted to build the Mallot Family Life Center for use by the church and CDO programs.

Dr. Robert Ferguson became the interim pastor in September, 1994 and became Senior Pastor in May, 1995.

In 1997, the congregation voted to approve Vision 2000, which included the purchase of the adjacent land, the building of the pavilion, and the building of the extension of the Mallot Family Life Center, which was dedicated on March 22, 1998.

In October of 2005 Dr. Ferguson retired.

In December, 2006 Rev. Dave Muntsinger became of the Senior Pastor of SCPC.  Since that time the congregation has experienced growth in numbers, and in February 2009, we added Rev. Dennis Hermerding to our staff as Pastor to Youth and Families.

We have experienced growth in numbers, but more importantly our church has grown in knowledge of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  We are growing in our relationships with each other and with the Lord.  We welcome visitors into our fellowship, and we look forward to the blessings God will grant us as we move into the future.
